We, Ourselves, and Us

THE PEOPLE

Margaret Yap

A graduate of LASALLE Singapore, Margaret’s background in graphic and interior design introduced her to the world of pottery. Her signature hand-painted pieces stem from illustrations of surreal scribbles, an invitation to her inner world of wonder and daydreams. Intrigued by the unpredictability and endless potential of the clay, Margaret has dedicated herself to exploring the limits of fine arts. Apart from pottery, she also enjoys writing, storytelling, and capture in poems the chaotic landscapes of the archipelago. Inspired by the explosion of colours and the alter egos of identities, her many characters come with their own stories to tell.

Steven The

A culinary arts major educated in Australia, Steven applies his knowledge of setting the stove to adjusting and monitoring the flame temperatures in the kiln. He shows a more technical application and methodical approach to pottery, complete with signature hand-carved details. With a streak of perfectionism, Steven prefers darker and monotonous colour palettes and immerses himself in the art of geometrical designs. In the studio, Steven is responsible for mentoring wheel-throwing classes.

THE PLACE

As Margaret's childhood home turned pottery studio, the space not only acts as her workspace and ceramic shop, but it's also where she hosts pottery workshops on most days of the week. The classes teach a variety of pottery methods from hand-building, wheel-throwing, Japanese kurinuki, to painting on ceramics.
